Phononic metamaterials (PMM) make it possible to control sound, for example, by deliberately creating gaps in the acoustic frequency band. As part of a research project, we are developing a novel numerical calculation method based on the spectral element method (SEM) to efficiently and highly accurately calculate the acoustic properties of such structures. A long-term goal is to integrate SEM into existing FEM models, which are used, among other things, in the aerospace industry.
Subject Area
Introduction to the theory of SEM and PMM in the context of vibroacoustics
Derivation and Formulation of the Underlying Partial Differential Equations
Implementation of SEM using higher-order form functions (e.g., Legendre or Chebyshev polynomials)
Validation of the results by comparison with analytical solutions and traditional FEM models
The exact focus and scope of the work will be determined on an individual basis.
