Household appliances

Toothbrush, vacuum cleaner and co.

Who hasn't experienced this? The espresso machine is too loud, the alarm signal from the pressure cooker is actually too quiet, the electric toothbrush sounds as if you've just been to the dentist and the vacuum cleaner whirrs away as if it couldn't get any crumbs off the carpet. Acoustic issues also play a decisive role in household appliances and everyday objects. In most cases, the aim here is to find the right tone, i.e. to improve the acoustic design or to minimize disturbing noises.

Whether washing machine, hairdryer or electric toothbrush - Novicos has gained extensive experience in the field of household appliances in recent years. We support our customers with a wide range of calculations in the areas of sound, vibration, flow and electromagnetics, carry out extensive and precise measurements and even develop virtual prototypes to predict product properties.

Virtual prototype for predicting sounds

The manufacturer Miele is known worldwide for particularly high-quality and quiet washing machines. Hardly any other household appliance has so many technical components that need to be optimally coordinated to ensure quiet operation. Novicos developed a virtual prototype for Miele's washing machines in order to precisely predict noise emission.

Quiet fully automatic coffee machines

Improving the acoustics of series products

How can you influence the acoustics of a product retrospectively if essential components and parts in the design can no longer be changed? Novicos provided the answer for the fully automatic coffee machine division at Miele. Our team dismantled and measured the machine, carried out a transfer path analysis and calculated various possible solutions. Novicos then built a physical prototype to prove that the calculations were correct.
