Advanced aeroacoustics based on hydrodynamic / acoustic separation

The objective of the present work is to deepen the understanding of hydrodynamic/acoustic separation (HAS) approaches in hybrid computational aeroacoustics (CAA) at low Mach numbers. The basic idea and characteristics of the HAS approach are investigated. Here, the focus is on pre-vertical modes and their influence.

In hybrid CAA, source data must be transferred between flow and acoustic models. The work shows that the HAS approach is insensitive to spatial errors, but adequate temporal reconstruction is crucial. Problems can arise with different sizes of flow and acoustic domains, where existing handling approaches are not always sufficient. Therefore, a novel strategy to continue the flow pressure field into the outer acoustic propagation domain is proposed.
