The work extends numerical predictions for flow-induced sound in rotating systems and promotes the understanding of sound generation. For this purpose, a hybrid method with hydrodynamic/acoustic splitting (HAS) is developed to enable detailed flow noise investigations at low Mach numbers. Aeroacoustic analyses of an axial fan and hydroacoustic investigations of a radial pump are presented. Design-related modeling specifications are necessary when considering sound generation mechanisms. Finally, recommendations are presented that provide meaningful results and enable valid flow noise predictions.
